Two more sent home on ‘So you Think You Can Dance’

The episode begins with the group dancing a jazz choreographed routine by Michael Rooney to “The Incredits” from The Incredibles. Was it me or did the group dance feel like an old gap ad? And why on Earth was the camera and the routine focused on Ryan? This keeps on happening week after week. Anywho, I wasn’t feeling that routine at all.The bottom three couples are revealed: Ashley and Chris, Miranda and Robert, and Caitlynn and Mitchell. I’m surprised by Miranda and Robert following their spicy samba from the night before. Caitlynn and Mitchell are also a surprise. Ashley and Chris were kind of a no-brainer. Judge Nigel Lythgoe saw to that Wednesday night when he said he “didn’t get” the routine. AXIS Dance Company, an Oakland, Calif.-based dance company featuring dancers with disabilities, is next with “Partita for Violin No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1004: V. Ciaccona.” It’s a beautiful routine featuring a dancer in a wheelchair partnered with an able-bodied dancer. The pair are able to do a variety of lifts, and difficult balances. It’s impressive. Ashley is first with the solos. She dances to “For You” by David Ryan Harris. It’s beautiful, soft, and powerful. But I think it is lacking something. Chris is next with “You’re Gonna Make It” by KJ-52 featuring Blanca Reyes. He has a lot of tricks. Miranda dances to “Unthinkable” by by Maria Zouroudis. She is very powerful and graceful. She leaps off the stage after she’s finished. Robert dances to “I Don’t Need It” by Jamie Foxx. There’s a lot of break dancing, but not as many tricks as Chris. Caitlynn is next with “It Doesn’t Hurt” by Katie Thompson. Mitchell is last with “Rolling In The Deep” by Adele. He does a lot of poses. But he floats across the stage with a number of powerful leaps. It’s hard to keep your eyes off of him with his flowy white costume. Eric Luna and Georgia Ambarian a theatrical dance pair are next with “Calypso” from “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.” They do some unbelievable lifts and balancing moves. It’s fantastic. Now it’s time for the judge’s decisions. Nigel says that the judges love all three girls and that the decision is not unanimous. Miranda gets sent home after Nigel reminds everyone that he called her the most improved of the competition. Miranda is very gracious. She wishes good luck to the rest of the competitors. Nigel says the judges are unanimous in the men’s elimination. He tells Mitchell that he isn’t connecting with the public. He tells Chris that he has done a good job,  but that he has to grow quicker. Nigel says Robert is leaving. Even though he hasn’t “woohooed” in weeks, I’m still glad to see Robert go. He was too much of a clown. Robert says he has enjoyed himself. He also says that he really didn’t view the show as a competition. He saw the show as an opportunity to make friends. “I want to spread the message of love and peace,” he says before launching into a final “woohoo.” That makes it much easier to see him leave. The judges made the right decision.
