Jesse Tyler Ferguson from “Modern Family” and Sonya Tayeh are the guest judges. I really liked what both brought to the panel. But enough about me, onto the show.

Each couple danced twice during the episode.

Sasha and Alexander are first with the Paso Doble by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin. They dance to “Alley Dash/March of the Tolls” by Taylor Long and Rick Powell. It is very passionate. Nigel says that the routine is really good. He says Alexander is the best he’s seen and Sasha does brilliantly. Mary raves about Sasha. She says Alexander has a breakthrough. Jesse says it is highly dramatic. He says it is brilliant. Sonya says Sasha “rocks” her socks.

Jordan and Tadd are next with a Travis Wall routine to “Brotsjór” by Ólafur Arnalds. Mary screams with joy. She says Jordan demolishes the routine. Jesse says Tadd shows that the guys are “in it to win it.” Sonya says the dance makes her want to cry. Nigel says the routine is remarkable.

Ryan and Ricky are next with a Spencer Lift routine. They dance to “All I Need In a Girl” by Frank Sinatra. Jesse says the routine felt muted. Sonya says that execution is key. “It was OK. It wasn’t your best,” she says. Nigel says he doesn’t know if the routine will make the connection with the audience. Mary says the routine lost its momentum after the first 30 seconds.

Caitlynn and Mitchell are next with a Christopher Scott routine. They dance to “Break The Chain” by Lupe Fiasco featuring Eric Turner and Sway. I don’t like it. Sonya says there a lack of clarity in the unison. Nigel agrees. He doesn’t know what the dance has to do with the theme. “It needed harder work for me,” he says. Mary says it falls a little bit short. Jesses says they dance with so much power. Melanie and Marko are next with a Louie van Amstel Tango. They dance to “Triptico” by Gotan Project. Nigel says the routine is tremendous. Mary says it’s good. Jesse says they have a spark. Sonya says they make her lose her breath. She says they are timeless dancers.

Clarice and Jess dance a Christopher Scott routine. They dance to “Just The Way You Are” by Boyce Avenue. Mary says they are amazing. Jesse says it is fantastic. Sonya says they are adorable. Nigel says it is lovely.

Jordan and Tadd are next with a Broadway routine by Spencer Lift. The dance to “Out Tonight” from Rent. Sonya says she is underwhelmed. She says she doesn’t see their abilities or craft in the routine. Nigel says he wanted more quirk in the routine. “It was OK,” he says. Mary says it isn’t strong enough. Jesse says it is a grab bag.

Ryan and Ricky are next with a Louie van Amstel Cha-cha-cha. They dance to “Tonight (I’m Loving You)” by Enrique Iglesias featuring Ludacris. Nigel says Ricky does a good job. He adds that Ryan is overdoing it. He calls her sloppy. Mary says it is a fasted Cha-cha she has ever seen. She says that Ryan’s feet got sloppy. She says Ricky is on the hot tamale train. Jesse says this is Ricky’s best of the season. Sonya says the pressure makes her tense.

Caitlynn and Mitchell are next with a Travis Wall contemporary routine to “Piece Of My Heart” by Janis Joplin. Mary says she loves the routine. Jesse says it is fantastic. Sonya says it is really hot. Nigel says that Mitchell needs to be careful that he doesn’t lose himself.
