Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms He Secretly Had a Child With Household Staffer
Entertainment Zone No Comments »Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed an affair with a member of his household staff produced a child and eventually led to his split from wife Maria Shriver. In a statement released to the Los Angeles Times on Monday, the former California governor said the child was born over a decade ago, but Shriver did not find out until earlier this year.
“After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry,” Schwarzenegger said.
“I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time,” he added. “While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not.”
The Los Angeles Times reports the unidentified female staffer worked for the Schwarzenegger family for 20 years before retiring in January. Schwarzenegger financially provides for the child.
Shriver has refused to comment. Schwarzenegger and Shriver announced their split in a joint statement last week. “This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us. After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together,” the pair said. “At this time, we are living apart, while we work on the future of our relationship.”
Schwarzenegger, 63, and Shriver, 55, wed in 1986 and have four children.
